Our patented technology has been extensively tested, researched, and proven as an effective shark deterrent, but Sharkbanz have not been tested on all species of sharks or rays. Sharkbanz can reduce the risk of shark and ray interactions, but there is no 100% guarantee that interactions will not take place. There should never be any attempt to entice sharks or rays to interact with humans, with or without Sharkbanz. Any human activity in the water near sharks or rays must always be considered as possessing a considerable degree of risk which is assumed solely by the wearer.
Sharkbanz are a defense against the most common type of dangerous shark interaction: ‘hit and run’ attacks/bites. These are investigative, unprovoked incidents. Much like other safety devices, such as a bike lights, Sharkbanz can reduce the risk - they do not eliminate the risk altogether.

Worn on your wrist, ankle, or surf leash (POD) one Sharkbanz product will help reduce the risk of an unwanted shark encounter, as the deterrent field of a single Sharkbanz unit is approx. 1-2 meters (about 3-6 ft).
However, wearing two (2) Sharkbanz (one on your ankle; another on your opposite wrist) will increase the overall deterrent field size and thus provide greater coverage – similar to how other safety devices work. If only wearing one, we suggest wearing Sharkbanz on your ankle, as the majority of shark bites occur on the ankle and leg areas.

Don't worry, your Sharkbanz is not "leaking" or defective. Quite the opposite.
Sharkbanz' powerful magnetic technology will attract tiny ferritic (iron) particles commonly found in the ocean. You may observe these minute particles sticking to your Sharkbanz after an ocean swim (oftentimes appearing like a dark soft substance). Do not be concerned! Your Sharkbanz is not leaking, nor is its effectiveness reduced.

Sharkbanz emit a magnetic field that quickly drops off, so sharks cannot sense it from far away. Once sharks enter this magnetic field range, they can be deterred, as Sharkbanz has shown to over-stimulate their electroreception. As you note, based on the laws of magnetics, this magnetic field created by Sharkbanz drops off at the inverse cube of the distance from the source - this means at a distance of 10 feet and beyond the field is not detectable by even the most sensitive laboratory equipment.
Sharks will not be attracted into the magnetic field.
The patented shark deterrent technology behind Sharkbanz products has been extensively researched and tested on a wide variety of shark species, including juvenile Tiger Sharks (up to 9 ft). Positive deterrent results were exhibited by juvenile Tiger Sharks during testing. Adult Tiger Sharks simply were not present during these specific tests. Like other predatory shark species, Tiger Sharks rely on electroreception, and Sharkbanz products have been shown to create avoidance behavior in Tiger Sharks and help Sharkbanz users reduce the risk.

"A group of friends and myself were doing our usual water jogging in Kailua bay. I spotted what appeared to be a log in the water about 10 to 12 ft from us. As it got closer, I could see clearly that it was a Tiger Shark. The shark must have sensed the magnet, shuddered, and abruptly turned, and swam away from us. "Thank you, Sharkbanz! The Tiger Shark veered away, and I swam safely to shore! While swimming at Stuart Beach (FL), I was quite far out wearing my fins and enjoying body surfing waves off the sand bar. At first, I didn't hear the lifeguard's whistle to clear all the swimmers from the water. So when I did look to shore, the beach goers were lined up along the shoreline and the lifeguard was waving his hands to come in. I was the only one still in the ocean. The water was crystal clear that day, and they could all watch the Tiger Shark (4-5 feet long) swimming back and forth parallel to the shore, but closer in than I was. As I'm swimming to shore, the shark turns towards me and follows me, getting closer and closer. When he was within about 6 feet of me, the lifeguard noticed he veered away [which he later told me]. While the shark stayed in the beach area, it never came near me again. THE SHARKBANZ WORKED WELL!"

Lastly, Sharkbanz customer Gary W. shared a story with us involving a Tiger shark in Kauai (HI) that bit his friend (who was not wearing Sharkbanz) while the two were surfing together - from 10/10/2017.
"Last night here on Kaua’i, I was involved in a shark attack incident. I was wearing a Sharkbanz and my friend wasn’t. He was attacked, but I wasn’t. There really isn’t any hard evidence that I was spared because of the magnet, but it’s an interesting and compelling point.
We were surfing sunset time [at Davidson’s], and the water had already turned black so we couldn’t see anything underneath. We were about 40’ apart, and I heard a noise and looked over. Then I saw my friend’s board “tombstoning” in the shark’s mouth. Its pec fin, tail, and dorsal fin were breaking the water as it thrashed with the board. There was no provoking to my knowledge as we were just sitting there waiting for waves.
My friend was frantically back-stroking and kicking the shark to get away.
[With my Sharkbanz on], I paddled straight to him, and as I got there, the shark let go of the board. My friend pulled it back to him by the leash, turned, and was gone on a wave. I watched the shark erratically swim a few circles around me where the incident happened, and the next wave came I was out too … high tide, getting dark so unknown species, but estimate about 10’ Tiger based on the bite size and type."

This principle applies to all common predatory sharks, Great Whites included. Great Whites rely heavily on their electroreception when swimming in open water, and Sharkbanz could effectively deter an investigating Great White. However, it's important to note that Great Whites are unique in that they are the only shark that acts as an ambush predator, attacking from a long distance at high speed. Sharkbanz deterrent technology also has the ability to deter stingrays, which helps beachgoers, wade fishermen, surfers, and divers reduce the risk of a painful incident. That said, we still recommend the ‘stingray shuffle’ as it’s one of the most affective ways to alert rays of your presence before getting too close, even if wearing Sharkbanz.
Our technology only repels sharks and rays because they are uniquely able to detect the field produced by Sharkbanz using their electroreceptors. Other animals are not affected.

My 6 year old granddaughter loves the water and has been swimming she was an infant in the pool, but as she has gotten older, she’s become increasingly more afraid to go in the ocean because of the threat of sharks. She was getting to a point where she didn’t want to go anymore. That all changed when I found sharkbandz. We looked at the website together, and saw some of the videos, and she said that having one would make her feel more comfortable in the ocean. Now that she’s tried it, I can definitely say it took most of the fear away for her. She can let herself enjoy the water again without being so afraid, and for me as a surfer who lives on the beach, it’s brought back my ability to spend quality time with her in the water, and I will be forever grateful. I went scuba diving last week in the BVI. Just as I submerged, I turned around to see a 6 foot shark turn toward us to check out what the splashing was about. Then we saw another, and another-six total, one about 8 feet long! They kept circling around us in closer and closer circles. Now, shark attacks in the area are extremely rare though I had knowledge there was a fatality in January, so they did get our vigilant eye at a minimum! 😆 At one point I had fallen behind the others a bit and one swam by about 15-20 yards away, but as I turned around to catch up with the others, one just barreled straight in toward me then swerved away sharply at about 6-8 feet away! THAT was a bit of a “sphincter tightening” experience! 😂 Do I know with a certainty that Sharkbanz had an effect? No, maybe it swerved too far away for it to have an effect? Just glad I had it on.

Bula! I work on Namotu and I lead the spearfishing program here and I head out with guests everyday. There's a lot of really great spearfishing spots but the problem is our hard work is always getting taxed (sharked). I heard about your product a few years back and didn't think much of it as I really didn't get the science behind it. But after using my friend's Sharkbanz, I promise you this, l'Il never be spearfishing without it.
I've seen sharks get near me and as soon as they go near my ankle, they get spooked off! So I came up with an idea of having the band on the last line of my reel so when I shoot, the band slides down straight to the shaft and stays gets stuck right on the top of the fish. I kept the fish on the shaft for a while and all the sharks just came near the fish and didn't bite at all. Tried it a few more times with the same result. So the normal reefies don't really give me a hard time, but the bullies for sure ALWAYS charge for the fish first, than try to get to me too.
But the day i used the Sharkbanz, that was a complete game changer as it took so long for the sharks to even come to the fish. Because the band was magnetic, it slid right dow to the shaft and stayed right above the fish perfectly the whole time and not coming backwards on the line (away from the fish). Will be sending you a few clips of it working when the fish is surrounded by sharks. The band doesn't need to keep sharks away for hours! It just needs to give me time to pull my kill in. I've got some videos of it working before I shoot a fish as some of the sharks get really close even before pulling the trigger but as soon as I point the gun and hand towards them, they turn almost immediately!
I got bit by a shark spearfishing this past October, made it out just fine, but I couldn’t relax in the water anymore. Until I got shark banz, and I haven’t dove without it since. I spearfish and scuba with peace of mind now. And I KNOW it works - last month I was in the FL keys, speared a hog fish, swam around some more, when a bull shark pulled up, charged me 3 times. The shark darted off each time he got close to my fins, that’s where my banz was. I got to keep my fish, and made it back to the boat safely! 10/10 recommend, better safe then sorry!!

I wear two when spearfishing. I have seen bullsharks come at me hard then do a hard 180 when they get within 5 feet (with fish on my stringer). I was skeptical but they work!

so i am a panama city beach local and decided to buy this for my boyfriend back in may for his birthday because his passion is surfing, little did i know that one even one week after giving it to him we would have not one, not two, NOT EVEN THREE shark attacks (pray for all who were bitten and in the hospital because of it) anyway fast forward to now.. yesterday we were out surfing and it was a stormy day and my boyfriend was in between the first and second sand bar and i see a fin come up and around him.. so of course i freak out and im screaming for him to come in just to be told he felt the water kind-of push off of him as if a big motion was near him in the water… i dont want to say that he wasn’t effected because of the shark band because that could be a stretch… but he WAS wearing it!! and i think its a little believable when you tell me a shark just “checked” him out and didn’t do anything but swim away in a fast motion once it got a little too close with this band on… anyway big shout out to shark banz for giving us both a bit more relief when out and about in the gulf of mexico. i love it!

I took my son and brother in law on a wade fishing trip in Port O’ Connor. We did see a couple blacktip sharks cruising the area we were wading in. The sharks never got close to us or our fish as we wore the Sharkbanz and had the zeppelins in our wading bags. Thanks again for the great product!

I live on the North shore of Maui surf almost every day got one for my Wife too she feels more comfortable in the water now . There was a boy Killed at Paia cove last week , when the water gets dirty from the rain we still go out , so the band is a must on the not so clear days . Hay your band is the only product on the market that works ,the only down side is don’t put it in your cary on luggage TSA goes off so check it .

Sadly long ago, “Jaws” really created a legitimate deep seated and somewhat irrational fear in me! Sharkbanz is comfortable and super easy to wear! Well made, stylish, and well, it just gives me that peace of mind. I am an avid swimmer and we sail frequently. Recently, while in Belize, I did witness a 15 ft shark do a complete U-turn just 20 feet from me! My partner dives all over the world and does teach me a lot and reminds me about the mostly non-harmful creatures. But my fear is ever present nonetheless! I definitely won’t go in the waters without my Sharkbanz. Thank you! Great product, longevity and storage box/packaging.

Seems to work great. Right behind our boat in the Bahamas we slid a sharkbanz down a fishing spear with a piece of barracuda on the end then stuck the end of the spear into the sandy bottom. Had a large bullshark approach the spear but she would not eat the barracuda.

Bought these as a stingray deterrent while wade fishing. Do lots of wade fishing in the Laguna Madre in Texas flats where plenty of stingrays live with the redfish. Very comfortable to wear on my ankle above my wading boots. Been out 8-10 times since my purchase, so far so good. Easily adjustable to fit any ankle. Quality construction.

While not a silver bullet they can create avoidance behavior in stingrays and it's an excellent personal deterrent layer - remember to always stingray shuffle as well. Sharkbanz work!I was spearfishing with a buddy (scuba, not apnea) this past Saturday 15 miles off Destin, Florida when some Bull Sharks (minimum of 3, all 8'+) started circling us. Our dive boat had drifted off with a failed steering hydraulic and couldn't pick us up. We had to surface swim a half mile to the boat with sharks on us nearly the whole way. I shot my speargun with powerhead three times, hitting sharks solidly without detonation (examination later showed a dented primer, bad ammo, or seal compromised). These sharks made numerous charges at me only to turn away without biting when reaching a few feet away. I can attribute this only to my Sharkbanz. I am 100% certain that without it I would've been bitten. Thank you!

I’m a surf instructor, and I was teaching a group lesson when, after everyone had caught their waves in, I noticed two good-sized sharks swimming toward me. They got within about five or six feet, but thankfully I was wearing my Sharkbanz. As soon as they sensed it, they turned and swam off immediately.
Seeing the product work with my own eyes was incredible. I was so stoked and grateful it helped keep me safe. I paddled in shortly after, but having that extra layer of protection gave me real peace of mind in the water. I’m super thankful for Sharkbanz! I never go in the ocean without one now, and honestly, every surfer should wear one.

My children enjoy skimboarding in Vero Beach Florida. One day while skimboarding, we noticed a lot of “spinner sharks” feeding jumping all over the place. These were out pretty far, but then we noticed one within feet of the shoreline, right within the area where the skimboard usually drifts away from the kids. Knowing that we will be visiting their home often, we decided to buy sharkbands for some peace of mind. Plus Noah loves skimboarding, and the ocean!
He wears his sharkband comfortably all while skimming for hours.

No shark seen yet. I waer it while kite surfing at my ankle joint. Just bought a Pod to Put it in my harness too. So while bodydraging or waterstart evertime a deterrent has contact with the water.
Maybe it will be possible in the future to get deterrent fins. This would ensure that you are protected even when your body is out of the water.

My Daughter Savona Surfs the Great lakes. Fresh water , no danger marine life. I run a business teaching Wing and Surf Foiling, as a class we sometimes take groups to Padre Island Texas. My nine year old loves the beach but is terrified of sharks. We planned to go to Hawaii for my birthday and I knew I wanted Sharkbanz to help calm her nerves. I’m so glad I got them!! My friend in Oahu taught us how to surf, and we all had peace of mind that sharks would stay away from us. It just made the whole surfing experience that much more fun.

I took my son and his girlfriend to the Grand Cayman and we all three went scuba diving. I purchased 3 Sharbanz 2 and while I was diving I unexpectedly came across a 6 foot shark (which was hiding in an alcove) and when I was within 2 feet of the shark it took off immediately. I credit my Sharkbanz 2. As a parent why not get something that could protect your family. I will never dive without it and I am glad I purchased them for my son and his girlfriend. I recommend this product with hesitation!

We bought our first shark banz over 10 yrs ago and just bought new ones. My teenage kids think they look 'cool'. They're actually very comfy on our ankles. The navy is a brighter blue and doesn't look like you're under house arrest lol. My daughter luvs her white one. So far, no shark attacks and all of our friends swim very close to us for protection!
