Here's the text from Jacob's original Instagram post and write-in about this surreal encounter.
Quoting Jacob:
" What a day. So lucky to have landed this slimy log. But what’s crazier than shooting this fish is what happened right after. So, some back story, I’ve never used a shark band before because I always thought they were bullshit, and today was the first time I was using one. As soon as I got the Ono on the stringer a 14ft tiger shark appeared out of the blues. This thing was so god damn fat it blew my mind. My partner @jesseikaikajones was wearing a shark band, and there was another one on the stringer, but not on me. So the shark comes within a few feet of me and then goes right up to the Ono and as soon as he got within a foot he turned around and swam back to the depths. I’ve never seen shark do anything like this, so @sharkbanz I fully believe in your product and will continue using it when I dive. What a solid weekend 🤙"
And lastly, here's the original write-in from Jesse [pictured left] who was there with Jacob for the whole thing:
Quoting Jesse:
"@sharkbanz I’ve been diving for a few months now with Jacob. It’s been a lot of fun but up until this past dive I’ve only been doing shoreline dives with him. This was my first real “blue water” dive. I literally bought two sharkbanz2 devices the day before our dive because I was nervous about running into sharks. That day, I put one sharkban on my ankle and one on our stringer. We had been out in the blues for about an hour when Jacob made a great shot and brought in the ‘ono. He secured it on the stringer and I started pulling it behind me as we headed for shore. I was regularly checking behind me (I expected we might see a few small sharks) but my heart dropped when I saw a large shadow approaching from behind. It was nothing I’ll ever forget. As it got closer I realized exactly what it was. The barreled body and distinct markings of a tiger shark. Until that moment I’d only ever seen them in pictures and on a TV screen. We stopped moving and he swam slow and steady towards us. In what seemed to last an hour, I watched him approach Jacob, swim by him, look at me and then he turned to our stringer. I thought the ‘ono was a goner for sure. I couldn’t believe it when he swam within feet of it, turned away and swam slowly off into the blue. This was not on my bucket list. I’m glad the shark was peaceful, calm, and went on his way. I’m glad we had the sharkbanz and got home safely with our catch. I’ll swear up and down to anyone who questions these devices… they work. 🙏❤️"
